Topology and ground state control in open-shell donor-acceptor conjugated polymers

چکیده
Donor-acceptor (DA) conjugated polymers (CPs) with narrow bandgaps and open-shell (diradical) character represent an emerging class of materials whose rich behavior emanates from their collective electronic properties diminished electron pairing. However, the structural heterogeneities that define these complicate bandgap control at low energies connections linking topology, exchange interactions, (opto)electronic functionality remain nascent. To address challenges, we demonstrate structurally rigid strongly ?-conjugated copolymers comprised a solubilizing thiadiazoloquinoxaline acceptor cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b?]dithiophene or dithieno[3,2-b:2?,3?-d]thiophene donors. Atom-specific substitution modulates local aromatic within donor resulting in dramatic differences structural, physicochemical, electronic, magnetic polymers. These long-range ?-mediated interactions facilitate between low-spin high-spin quinoidal forms. This work provides strategy to understand evolution structure DA CPs, ground state spin multiplicity, tune spin-spin articulate emergence novel properties.

Resonance Raman spectra of poly(2-methoxy-5-(3'-7'-dimethyloctyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (MDMO-PPV) and small molecule acceptor blend charge transfer (CT) complexes reveal long and detailed progressions of overtone and combination bands. These features are sensitive to the specific MDMO-PPV/acceptor interactions and enable quantitative calculations of vibrational mode specific displacements ...

A class of new conjugated copolymers containing a donor (thiophene)-acceptor (2-pyran-4-ylidene-malononitrile) was synthesized via Stille coupling polymerization. The resulting copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, elemental analysis, GPC, TGA, and DSC. UV-vis spectra indicated that the increase in the content of the thiophene units increased the interaction between the polymer main chains t...

A series of donor-acceptor heteroleptic open sandwiches with formula CpM-M'Pyl (M = B, Al, Ga; M' = Li, Na; Cp = cyclopentadienyl; Pyl = pentadienyl) has been designed in silico using density functional theory. The most stable complexes are those containing boron as a donor atom. A molecular orbital analysis shows that the s character of the lone pair located at the group 13 element is mainly r...
